General Grant will return to his hometown of Georgetown, Ohio for three days of celebrations of his contributions to American History. The events will begin on Thursday evening, April 21st with a talk by local historian, Ned Lodwick, on the participation of Brown County area troops, the ‘Fighting 59th’, at Shiloh and the rest of the War. It will be at the Georgetown United Methodist Church.
The next evening, Friday, April 22nd, General and Julia Grant will receive the public at a gathering also at the Church.
Saturday will be the biggest day with a period magician, and period music, artillery fire, tours of the Grant Home and Schoolhouse. This year the Living Historian group, Lincoln’s Generals will join General Grant as they re-create the Headquarters encampment of General Grant in the field at the time of the surrender at Appomattox Court House, VA. They portray many of the significant officers on General Grant’s staff and give interesting talks to the public in first person at all times. This is a ‘don’t miss’ event for Civil War enthusiasts.
