General Grant will return to Holly Springs, Mississippi for the re-enactment of the raid by General Earl Van Dorn on December 20th, 1862. That raid destroyed all of General Grant’s supplies stockpiled for his soon-to-be-launched raid through central Mississippi down the Mississippi Central railroad to take Vicksburg and control of the Mississippi river.
The weekend will feature camps of both Federal and Confederate soldiers, Cavalry and Artillery with demonstrations by all of these. There will be a battle at 2pm each day for the spectators to enjoy. Camps will open at 10am each morning and the soldiers welcome visitors to talk with them and learn History first-hand.
Please join the General as the only Cavalry raid in the Civil War to stop an entire Campaign is re-enacted in Historic Holly Springs, Mississippi.
This is part of the 78th annual Holly Springs Pilgrimage.
