General Grant and General Lee Will Come Together on April 13th and 14th, Instant, to Observe the 154th Anniversary of Lee’s Surrender to Grant at Appomattox Court House, Virginia

Federal and Confederate living historians will conduct firing demonstrations and re-create the Stacking of Arms both days.

On Saturday night, beginning at 6:00 P.M., the Appomattox 1865 Foundation will sponsor a one act play, “Appomattox: The Last 48 Hours” with Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant.  The production will be on the front porch of the McLean House with audience seating on the front lawn.

The presentation by General Grant and General Lee (Thomas Jessee) will be followed by the lighting of 4,600 luminaries representing the enslaved people in Appomattox County emancipated as a result of Lee’s surrender.

In addition, Parole Pass printing demonstrations and an Education Station will also be offered both days.

Visit the camps of Federal and Confederate troops and talk with them about life in Camp and on Campaign.  Visit with General Grant and General Lee and talk with them and their respective staff officers.

General Grant and General Lee hope that you will join them on Appomattox Court House National Historical Park for this momentous occasion, and come to see their production of  “Appomattox: The Last 48 Hours” on the front porch of the McLean House.
