General Grant is pleased to invite all who may be able to attend, to the annual ‘Civil War Days’ at Camp Nelson Civil War Heritage Park in Nicholasville, KY. This is a unique part of Civil War History being one of the recruiting and training camps for USCT’s. There is a National Cemetery there, as well, with a wreath-laying ceremony on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p. m.
The Camp Nelson Civil War Heritage Park is in Nicholasville, KY, and was the third largest USCT recruiting depot in the country during the War, mustering in more than 10,000 USCT’s. It also was the mustering-in site for several regiments of white troops from Tennessee and Kentucky.
There will be drills and demonstrations throughout the weekend. General Grant will speak at 11:00 a. m. and 1:00 p. m. on Saturday and at 11:00 a. m. on Sunday. There will also be talks by Frederick Douglas (Michael Crutcher) and the abolitionist preacher John Fee during the weekend.
A highlight of the event will be a Civil War wedding complete with a reception and music at 2:30 on Saturday afternoon. A period church service will be held Sunday morning at 11:00 a. m. The event will be closed with a wreath-laying in Cemetery #1, at 2:30 p. m. Join the General at this Historical place in our Civil War and enjoy good History in a good place to learn and enjoy it.
