Generals Ulysses Grant and Robert E. Lee (portrayed by Thomas Jessee) are pleased to announce that they will, once again, present “Appomattox: The Last 48 Hours” on the front porch of the Wilmer McLean house where the surrender of General Lee to General Grant took place on April 9th, of 1865.  Their presentation will be on the porch of the anniversary date. The Presentation covers the messages sent between the two Generals from Grant’s first one to Lee at 5pm, on April 7th to Lee’s message to Grant on the morning of April 9th, saying he wanted to meet to surrender the Army of Northern Virginia and Grant’s reply.  What they thought of each message and how they responded both in writing and army movement is discussed.

The Presentation will be on the Mclean house porch and is free to the public.  Generals Grant and Lee hope that, all who may, will join them for this absorbing and informative presentation on the porch of the house where it happened. For more information about this event, please contact: Appomattox National Historic Site on their E-telegraph site or their Civilian Signal Corps Device, ID# of: (434) 352-8987
